Updated 20 October 2026. Macomb Insiders uses simple website counters to understand which stories and links are useful.
What our own counters measure
Our own analytics count page views, story-link clicks, newsletter-link clicks, outbound links and use of search. Counters are grouped by day, public page, broad traffic source, campaign label and device type. Outbound clicks record the destination’s website name, without its full address.
These counters do not use unique visitor identifiers or fingerprinting. We do not store your IP address, email address, search words, full referrer address or full query string in this analytics system. A shared cookie flag remembers when you exclude this browser; it does not identify you. Descriptive campaign labels from shared links may be counted. We respect your browser’s Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track settings. Daily counters are deleted after 90 days.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is available on our public pages if you accept analytics cookies. Google’s tag loads only after acceptance. It can use analytics cookies and information about your device and use of the website to produce reports. Our integration disables Google signals and advertising personalisation.
You can accept or decline in the analytics-cookie choice, then change your mind using “Analytics choices” below. We remember that choice in browser storage for up to 180 days. Declining stops our Google Analytics collection and clears accessible Google Analytics cookies for this site. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track prevent our Google tag from loading. Editor and private draft pages are excluded.
Our manual page-view events omit search words and unrelated URL query parameters. Only descriptive campaign labels are included. Google’s own processing and any additional measurement configured in the property are described in Google’s information about partner sites. The anonymous counters described above operate separately.
Your analytics choices
Google Analytics stays off if this browser is excluded, or if Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track is enabled.
Exclude this browser
Use this when browsing your own publication or whenever you prefer not to be counted. Signing in to the editor also excludes that browser automatically. The flag lasts up to one year, covers both website addresses, and needs to be set separately in each browser or device.
JavaScript is needed to manage this browser’s exclusion.
This changes future collection. It does not remove visits already recorded.
Newsletter signup
The embedded signup form is provided by Beehiiv. Information you enter goes to Beehiiv to manage your subscription. The form may use its own cookies or similar technology. Please read Beehiiv’s privacy policy before subscribing. A website signup-link click does not tell us whether you completed a subscription.
When you dismiss our article signup popup, this browser remembers the dismissal for seven days in local storage. You can still open signup yourself at any time.
Hosting and editor access
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes requests to deliver and protect it. Hosting and security logs are separate from our anonymous counters. GitHub sign-in and session cookies are used for the owner’s private editor; visitors do not need to sign in to read stories.
External websites
Links to businesses, event organisers and source websites take you to services with their own privacy practices.
